The journey started on Dec 23th,2020. My three friends and I planned to chill in Dehardun before the trek start. On Dec 25th,2020, the trek started. Before jumping into the whole story, I want to talk about the place. Kedarkantha is a mountain peak of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand, India. Its located within Govind Wildlife Sanctuary in the height of 12,500 ft. After hearing the word Himalayas, yes! It is most scenic and beautiful beyond imagination. To climb the peak of KedarKantha starts from the small village Sankri. So, the trek team arranged transport to travel from Dehradun to Sankri. It’s around 8 hours of a journey filled with the big mountains, the stunning beauty of Damta river, and a little peek of the Himalayas here and there. That small road trip across the beautiful small villages filled me with an unexplainable vibe inside me. Because I am living in Tamil Nadu, I have seen Yercaud Hills, Salem which is 1515 meters altitude. But these huge, snow-filled Himalaya mountain range are super fresh to my eyes.

Lush green mountains in winter (Dehardun to Sankri)

We reached Sankri around 7 p.m. with the trek bags where we carrying attire for five-six days and winters two-three winter jackets to handle the -7 degree coldness. It’s a super switch for me because the temperature I live in is 30 degrees. Our trek team arranged a hotel for us to stay in Sankri. So yes, when we entered the hotel, the hotel receptionist hurried us to go terrace after very few questions as briefing was already going on which starts the next day. Yes! we were late, you know it’s OK! sometimes stop the car and enjoy the view. Haa, we finally settled up in the room, I already was feeling cold and covering myself with two layers of jackets. It’s the next morning, everyone slowly coming out of their rooms and enjoying the view with a cup of tea.

A glorious greeting by sun and mountains — Sankri

I am not gonna say that all this travel and sudden climate switch with my bad health condition was a rocking experience. Did I say bad health condition??? Ahh!!,yeah!! I was very sick and weak just before the trip starts. It was hard for me to decide whether to go on a trip or stay back and start the new year with boring memories of the year. Now, my dad played his role by convincing me to go ahead with the trip. He told me that two things may happen whether I may get well because of medication and finish my trek successfully…yay.. else I may be returning home in between because of worsened health. Its motivating right!?. Yeah, here where my story starts ‘My journey to Kedarkantha!’
